(Hong Kong, 13 November 2006) - China BlueChemical Limited (“China BlueChem” or the “Company”) today announcedthatthe600,000-tonnemethanol plant,aninvestmentofCNOOCKingboard Chemical Limited (“CNOOC Jiantao”), which started trial production in September has shipped 2,900 tonnesofmethanol toVietnambytheendofOctober,thisisalsothefirstexportcommenced. Specialized vehicles were used to deliver the methanol – a highly inflammable Category 2 hazardous chemical–directlyfromtheproductioncomplextotheSingaporefreighterattheBasuoPortfive miles away.
With a 600,000 tonnes designed annual production capacity, the CNOOC Jiantao methanol plant is one of the largest single facilities of its kind inChina. Located in Dongfang City of Hainan province,the total investment cost of the plant is approximately RMB1.5 billion.
Mr. Fang Yong, Executive Vice President of China BlueChem responsible for marketing and sales, said, “The superb location of the CNOOC Jiantao methanol plant close to both water and land transportation provisions is what underscored the smooth export shipment. Current market demand for methanol is quitestrong andourtargetmarketsincludeSouthernChina,EasternChina,Taiwanaswell asSEAsiancountriessuchasJapan,KoreaandVietnam.Asthedownstream applicationsofmethanol continue to develop, we expect the demand in Asian and China markets will remain strong.”
