In Golden October, amid the 10th anniversary of China BlueChemical Ltd., good news was again received at CNOOC’s Dongfang Chemical City - the annual 800,000-tonne methanol project of China BlueChemical Ltd. was successfully completed as scheduled and put into the stage of trial production. Up to now, the annual methanol production capacity of China BlueChemical Ltd. in Hainan region has reached 1,400,000 tonnes, and establishes itself as the largest methanol production base in China.The 800,000-tonne methanol project is located at Dongfang Industrial Park in Dongfang City of Hainan Province. The raw material for the production, being natural gas, is originated from the offshore natural gas field Ledong 15-1/22-1 developed by CNOOC Limited. As the gas field is characterized by the high level of carbon dioxide and low heating value, and the production process of methanol requires a heavy consumption of carbon dioxide, therefore the use of the gas field for methanol production can totally utilize carbon dioxide in the natural gas, thus the massive emission of carbon dioxide can be avoided. Hence that project is a project for green and clean development.The main plant of the project adopts the most advanced DPT methanol production technologies in the world. It offers a short technical process，a low unit consumption and no “three wastes” will be emitted under normal circumstances. Meanwhile, the equipments and materials of the project have been extensively localized. Apart from the key equipments acquired overseas, other equipments and materials are provided by the outstanding domestic manufacturers.
